Wood Door Refinishing Beverly Hills
Wood Door Refinishing in Beverly Hills
Entry doors in Beverly Hills do more work than doors elsewhere. They’re big, they’re usually custom, and they’re the first thing anyone sees. Wood door refinishing in Beverly Hills mostly focuses on keeping that scale and detail intact while rebuilding the finish underneath.
Three kinds of doors we're asked about
Spanish Colonial and Mediterranean
Plank doors, iron studs, carved surrounds, speakeasy grilles. They face the sun, the finish bleaches unevenly, and the iron hardware sits right next to wood we need to stain cleanly. We protect the hardware and work around it. We test the stain on the door before we commit, since heavy planks and carved panels take color differently within the same door.
Revival estates: Georgian, French, English
These tend to be paneled doors, often painted over at some point, with moldings that should be crisp but have softened under paint. Stripping them back is slow work, but it restores the profile.
Mid-century
Slab doors with a wood veneer. Veneer is thin, so we sand lightly and carefully, checking what’s under the finish before deciding how far to go. When done gently, they come back well. If you use a heavy hand, you sand through to the core.
What matters on a big door
Large doors move. Panels expand and contract with temperature and humidity, so the finish has to be built in thin coats that flex with the wood instead of one thick film that cracks. On double doors, refinish both leaves together so the color matches across the pair. Heavy or tall doors get more drying time between coats, not less.
Sometimes the answer is that the door needs repair before it needs a finish: a split panel, a loose joint, a worn bottom rail. We repair it in the same species, blend it, and note it in the estimate.
Beyond the front door
We usually start with doors, then the work spreads inside: wood floor refinishing, stair and paneling work, kitchen cabinet refinishing, and, in older houses, full Craftsman home restoration. We cover sun-exposed exterior sides on our exterior door refinishing and front door refinishing pages. If you’re comparing neighborhoods, our work in San Marino and Arcadia involves similar estate-scale entries, and the Santa Monica page covers coastal exposure on the Westside. The full list is on Pasadena and beyond.
Beverly Hills door questions
Can you refinish a carved or custom door without losing the detail?
Yes. We work carvings and raised panels by hand, not by sanding them flat. We strip carefully, repair what’s damaged, and refinish so the profile stays sharp.
Do you refinish both leaves of a double door?
Yes, together, so the color and sheen match across the pair.
Can you work around iron or brass hardware?
Yes. We protect hardware during stripping and staining so the metal stays clean and the wood gets an even color around it.
Do you work in Beverly Hills?
Yes. Beverly Hills is within our Los Angeles service area. Call (626) 372-7079 for a free estimate.
We’re open Monday to Friday, 8:00 to 5:30, and Saturday, 8:00 to 2:00. Call (626) 372-7079 or send us your project details.
